MEDIA, Penn. (Nov. 22, 2011) – Sophomore forward/center Michael Williams (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) collected his first career double-double with career-high totals of 15 points and 12 rebounds to power the Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team to its first victory of the season, 54-50, at Penn State-Brandywine here Tuesday night.

Four days after opening their season with an 87-53 loss at Division I Elon University Friday night, the Scarlet Raptors evened their record at 1-1.

The Lions (0-3) built a 29-27 halftime score and notched the first two points after the break to take their largest lead of the second half, 31-27. Rutgers-Camden rallied back and finally took the lead for good, 39-37, on a three-pointer by junior guard Yusuf Leary (Portland, OR/Lincoln). The Raptors extended their lead to six on three occasions in the second half. Penn State-Brandywine whittled the margin to 52-50 late in the game before the Raptors closed out the game with the final two points.

Williams shot 6-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from the foul line en route to his 15 points, easily passing his previous high of eight points set against The College of New Jersey on Feb. 5, 2011. His 12 rebounds also shattered his old high of five set against St. Joseph-Brooklyn on Jan. 17, 2011.

The Scarlet Raptors also received 10 points from senior guard Anthony Solano (Garfield, NJ/Wood-Ridge), while sophomore guard Woody Redding (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast Catholic) added nine and Leary canned seven.

Leary also had a game-high four steals, while Redding notched a high of six assists.

Rutgers-Camden shot 33.3 percent from the field (21-for-63), while Penn State-Brandywine was 17-for-53 (32.1 percent). The Lions held a 41-28 margin off the boards, but the Scarlet Raptors forced the home team into 27 turnovers while making only 15 themselves.

Junior forward Mike McGlynn paced the Lions with his own double-double, notching 15 points and adding 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Vince Mostardi and junior forward Learon Pray both added 10 points for Penn State-Brandywine.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday, Nov. 30, with a 6 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game at Kean University.
