WILLIAMSTOWN, MA.- It was a tale of two halves for the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team. They went into halftime trailing by three points but Salem State used a 51-25 second half advantage to knock off Potsdam 92-63. Brian Clark led the Vikings (2-0) with 22 points and nine rebounds in the opening game of the Williams Tournament.

Sophomore Tony Efese single-handedly put Potsdam (1-1) on top earlier. He accounted for 20 of the Bears first 26 points culminating in back-to-back three pointers to give Potsdam a 26-18 lead with 9:27 remaining in the half. Dan Clark matched Efese's hot shooting with 17 first half points of his own. Clark went 4-5 from behind the arc, the last coming with 19 seconds left before halftime. That three gave the Vikings a 41-38 half time lead that they would never relinquish.

Salem State came out of the locker room on fire to start the second half. They would open with a 13-3 run and carry that momentum throughout. The Vikings shot 63 percent from the field and held the Bears to 29 percent shooting. Freshman Zac Adams made all three of his field goal attempts in the half, and finished with seven points in his second career game.

Potsdam Head Coach Sherry Dobbs saw the game as a missed opportunity.

"We played well in the first half," said Head Coach Sherry Dobbs. "We had a good chance to get a win but we made mental mistakes and didn't compete at a high level in the second half."

For the game, Efese finished with 20 points and was 4-6 from the three-point line. Junior Curtis Pierce posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Bears will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. Potsdam faces Southern Vermont in the final game of the tournament.
