SHERMAN, Texas (Feb. 20) -- Hendrix College survived in a must-win situation after two overtimes decided Sunday afternoon's 76-74 thriller over Austin College at Hughey Gymnasium. The victory clinched the No. 4 West seed for Hendrix in next weekend's SCAC Tournament at Millsaps College.

The Warriors (10-15, 5-11 SCAC) came back from a five-point deficit with just under five minutes left in regulation and owned a three-point lead, 62-59, with 1:40 left on the clock. Austin (11-13, 7-9 SCAC) junior Josh Saunders scored a 3-point play the hard way to tie the game and both teams missed on their last possession in regulation.

Each team scored six points in the first overtime, while senior Nick Heathscott gave Hendrix back-to-back layups to start the second overtime. The Warriors' four-point advantage was just enough to outlast the Roos.

Austin went 0-for-5 from behind the arc in the final overtime. Hendrix concentrated on getting the ball inside the paint with a 6-0 advantage down low during the last five minutes of play.

Both teams shot 37 percent from the field and 75 percent from the charity stripe. Hendrix scored 22 points off Austin's 19 turnovers. Hendrix also held a 36-30 advantage in the paint and 23-7 lead off the bench.

Heathscott finished the day with 23 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Junior Ammon Martin added 16 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Jaren Riley and junior Chris Goodman rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Warriors return to the SCAC Tournament after missing last year's postseason classic in Jackson, Miss. Hendrix will face the No. 1 East seed Centre College (18-5, 13-3 SCAC) on Friday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. CT on Belhaven University's campus. Hendrix will look to avenge its 68-56 setback at Centre on Jan. 14.
