The Oswego State men's basketball team sent its two seniors out in style by holding off a second-half rally from visiting Geneseo to post a 54-50 win Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.  The Lakers held a 12-point halftime lead, but the Blue Knights stormed back to take a brief lead with six minutes remaining before Oswego State pulled out the victory.  The Lakers, who are No. 1 in the upcoming SUNYAC Playoffs, won their 15th straight game to improve to 22-3 overall and 17-1 in the conference standings.  Geneseo closed out the season at 6-18 overall and 3-15 in the league.

Head coach Adam Stockwell's squad put together a 14-4 run early in the first half to take a 19-6 lead with 11:37 left in the frame.  The cushion remained consistent throughout the half as Oswego State took a 31-19 lead into the locker room.

The Blue Knights came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Lakers 14-2 in the first six minutes of the frame to level the score at 33 points apiece.  During a seven-minute stretch, Oswego State managed just one basket as it went ice cold from the field, but Geneseo did not gain its first and only lead of the game until Mike Hoy scored two of his game-high 23 points from the free-throw line to put the Blue Knights ahead 44-43 with 6:08 to play.

However, the lead did not last long as Hayden Ward sank three of his 13 points on a three-pointer from the top of the key on the next possession to give the Lakers the lead for good.  The trey jumpstarted a small 9-2 run, punctuated by a Chad Burridge two-handed dunk, to go ahead 54-46.  It would be enough, though, as Oswego State hung on for the 54-50 victory

Chad Burridge joined Ward in double figures with 17 points.  The Lakers compensated for being out-rebounded, 39-26, by converting 17 Geneseo turnovers into 20 points.

Prior to the start of the game, the Lakers recognized seniors Jose Uribe and Kevin Kucel for their contributions to the program.

Oswego State will host No. 8-seed Potsdam on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at Max Ziel Gymnasium in the SUNYAC quarterfinal round.  Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students with valid ID.  The first 400 SUNY Oswego students will receive "Max OUT Ziel" shirts.
