Oswego State Hits Key Shots Down Stretch To Defeat Brockport 69-61

More news about: Oswego State

Senior Jose Uribe poured in all of his 11 points in the second half to help the Oswego State men's basketball team hold off Brockport in a 69-61 win Friday night in Oswego.  With the Lakers leading by three, Uribe drained back-to-back treys to push the lead to nine points, as the Golden Eagles never got closer until the end of the game.  Oswego State moved to 21-3 overall and 16-1 in the conference, while Brockport fell to 12-12 on the season and 10-7 in the league.

Chad Burridge paced the home team with 15 points and eight boards, joining Uribe in double-digits.  Three Golden Eagles scored ten points or more, as Kyheem Green and Jon Ivy tallied 16 points each and Gerald Williams added 10.

The Lakers clung to a two-point lead with 7:48 left in the first half until Sean Michele rattled off three straight three-pointers in less than two minutes as part of a 9-1 run that gave Oswego State a 27-17 advantage.  However, Brockport stormed back into the game by closing out the frame on an 8-0 tear to head into the locker room trailing 32-29.

The momentum carried over into the second half as the Golden Eagles took a 36-34 lead following a Williams free throw, but a three-point play by Chris Gilkes triggered eight straight Laker points to give Oswego State a 42-36 cushion.

Reid Drzal pulled Brockport to within three points midway through the stanza, but both teams went scoreless over the next two minutes until Uribe drained the first of his two pivotal treys to create some distance between the two squads.  Hayden Ward capped off the stretch with a layup to give Oswego State an 11-point lead at 54-43 with 6:31 to play.  The Golden Eagles fought to cut into the deficit, but got no closer than nine points until the final horn sounded.

The Lakers close out the regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they host Geneseo on Senior Day.
