Devil Men Earn Big Road Win at McDaniel, 54-50

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team went on a run in the middle of the second half and held off host McDaniel College for a 54-50 win on Wednesday night. The teams went back-and-forth throughout the first half with the Green Terror holding a 32-24 lead at the break.

 

The Devlis struck first before McDaniel answered with a 9-0 run. Dickinson later erased another seven point deficit with an 8-0 run triggered by a dunk from first-year Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier ). The Green Terror closed out the half with a 10-2 run to lead by eight at intermission.

 

First-year Brian Gerney (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) started the second half with a pair of layups and an assist to Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) to help the Devils tie the game, 32-32, at the 16:54 mark.

 

Junior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) drained a three-pointer to give the Devils the lead before  senior Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) led the way to a seven point Dickinson advantage with 13:22 on the clock.

 

Gerney fed Landy for a lay-up to give the Devils their biggest lead of the night at the 12:05 mark, 46-37.

 

McDaniel chipped away at the lead, pulling within four, 54-50, with just under four minutes remaining in the game. The teams went scoreless for the final 3:55 as the Devils held on for a key Centennial Conference road win.

 

Dolan finished with a team-high 11 points, controlling nine rebounds to go with three assists, two blocks and two steals. Sophomore Doug Jakiela (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Barsanti tallied nine points, six rebounds and a pair of steals. Gerney dished out a game-high six assists.

 

The Red Devils improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Johns Hopkins for a 4:00 start on Saturday.
