Warriors Battle Past Red Devils 76-66

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team stayed with Lycoming all afternoon but could not overtake the visiting Warriors, falling 76-66 on Sunday afternoon.

 

Junior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) opened the game with a three-pointer as the teams battled to a 12-12 tie at the midway point of the first half. Lycoming went on a 5-0 run to lead 17-12 with 9:19 on the clock. Dickinson answered to tie the game, 24-24, with 4:29 remaining in the half.

 

Lycoming pulled in front by five again and held a 31-28 advantage at the break. The Warriors stretched the lead to 37-30 before the Devils rallied to pull within a field-goal, 37-35, with 16:05 to play in the game.

 

Lycoming used a pair of three-pointers from Will Kelly to trigger a 14-4 run, giving them their biggest lead of the afternoon, 60-47, with 5:53 left in regulation. The Red Devils cut the deficit to five with 3:13 remaining, but would get no closer, falling 76-66.

 

Sophomore Doug Jakiela (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) came off the bench to lead the Devils with 15 points, scoring 13 in the second half on 7-of-8 shooting. Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds to go with a game-high five assists.

 

Sophomore Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) added 11 points while Heine hit a trio of three-pointers for nine points.

 

Kelly led all Lycoming (7-3) with a game-high 23 points, adding seven rebounds. Mike Bradley recorded a double-double as well with 13 points and 14 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass.

 

The Red Devils slip to 5-5 overall. They travel to Division I Radford University on December 28th before returning home to host Carnegie Mellon on January 4th at 7:00 pm.
