Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team traveled to Downtown Brooklyn and stung the Yellow Jackets of the New York City College of Technology in overtime, 78-76, earlier tonight at the Klitgord Center in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) South Division showdown.

With the win, the Bulldogs snap their three-game losing streak and even their overall record at 11-11 and improve to 7-4 in conference play; while the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-18 overall on the season and 3-9 in league play.

The Bulldogs have also now swept the season series with the Yellow Jackets, as BC defeated City Tech, 94-76, back on December 2nd at the West Quad Center Gymnasium.

Senior Ahmad Hemingway led all scorers for BC netting a game-high 26 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field, including going 3-for-4 from three and a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Junior Tyshawn Russell chipped in with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while classmate Amil John finished with 15 points and four steals.

City Tech had five players in double figure scoring led by Nathaniel Young's team-high 17 points. Emanuel Adepoju added 14 points, while Fitzgerald Charles and Curlon McNeil each finished the night with a double-double. Charles had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while McNeil had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Alvarado contributed with 11 points coming off the bench.

The host Yellow Jackets held the rebounding edge, 40-33; however, the Bulldogs' defense forced City Tech into 21 turnovers for the game, 12 of which came via steal. City Tech shot 47.5% (29-for-61) from the field for the game, compared to Brooklyn's 42.6% (29-for-68) shooting from the floor.

After a free throw by sophomore Christopher Guttadaro cut BC's deficit to one, 76-75 with 20 seconds left in overtime, Brooklyn went into their press, which led to a John steal and fast break dunk to give the Bulldogs a one-point advantage, 77-76, with just five ticks left. BC would clamp down on defense in the next possession, as Guttadaro took an offensive charge to force another Yellow Jacket turnover. Brooklyn would hit one of two free throws in the closing seconds to escape with the 78-76 victory.

Both teams started off the game trading baskets, but it would be the Yellow Jackets who would seize control for much of the first half, using a 9-2 run to take an 18-12 lead with 9:13 left before halftime. City Tech would lead the rest of the way heading into the break with a 40-32 advantage.

The Yellow Jackets continued to build upon their lead in the second half, increasing their advantage to as many as 12, 50-38, with 16:33 left in the game. The Bulldogs would begin to chip away at their deficit and eventually regain the lead utilizing a 23-8 run to go up 61-58 at the 8:29 mark of the second stanza. The teams would trade baskets down the stretch as neither squad would be able to pull away. A jumper from Young tied the game at 70 as the game headed into overtime.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, February 9th, as Brooklyn will host the Cardinals of York College in a crucial CUNYAC South Division match-up for seeding purposes in the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the West Quad Center Gymnasium.

The game will also mark the final home contest of the 2010-2011, as seniors Hemingway, Darnell Cudjoe, Daniel Velasquez and Brian Shea will be honored prior to the start of the game as part of Senior Day festivities. The Bulldogs will also look to sweep the season series against the Cardinals, as BC defeated York in their previous meeting back on January 5th, 75-71, in Jamaica, NY.
