Sharp-shooting Pointers Rip 'Jackets

More news about: UW-Superior

On Saturday afternoon, the Yellowjacket men's basketball team traveled to Stevens Point, giving them the chance to avenge a loss they suffered at Mertz Mortorelli Gym just two weeks ago.  The Pointers, however, had other ideas.

Dan Tillema and Jerrel Harris each scored 12 points to the lead the Pointers, who had at least ten points from four different players in an 89-48 rout of the Yellowjackets.  Stevens Point had 13 players score in double figures.

Dan Culy (Rice Lake, Wis.)
hit a jumper with 1:46 gone in the first half that tied the game at 2-2.  Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets that is as close as they would get in the game.  The Pointers would pull away, taking a 42-23 lead at halftime.  In the second half, the Pointers would stretch the lead, shooting at a 58.1% clip and cruised to the victory.

Ben Aalfs (Hutchinson, Minn.)
led the Yellowjackets with 11 points.  Marcus Helland (Baldwin, Wis.) had five rebounds, Jake Smith (Rhinelander, Wis.) had four assists and Culy and Dustin Ritchie (Superior, Wis.) had two steals each to lead the Yellowjacktes.

The Yellowjackets (11-9 overall, 3-8 WIAC) are back in action at Mertz Mortoreill Gym on Saturday, February 5 when they play host to UW-La Crosse at 3:00 p.m.  Saturday is Alumni Day at Mortorelli Gym, and the Yellowjackets will host their men's basketball alumni game at 10:00 a.m.
