TACOMA, Wash. -- David Riley scored 19 points to become only the fifth player in Whitworth history to surpass 1,500 for his career, leading the visiting Pirates to an 89-76 win over Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference men's basketball game on Friday night at Memorial Fieldhouse.

The second-ranked Pirates improved to 20-0 overall and 11-0 in the NWC, winning their 35th consecutive NWC contest. The Loggers fell to 8-12, 5-6.

Felix Friedt and Michael Taylor each scored 15 points in the first half to help the Pirates take a 43-30 lead at halftime. Leading 29-26, Whitworth ran off a 14-4 spurt before the break.

The Pirates quickly extended their lead in the second half. Friedt began an 11-0 run by converting a three-point play and Clay Gebbers ended it with a three-point shot that gave Whitworth a 57-35 lead with 15:36 left. Whitworth led by about 20 points most of the rest of half before a late Logger run returned the final score to the same margin as halftime.

Friedt led all players with 24 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, his second double-double of the season. Taylor finished with 21 points and Riley had his 19 points. Whitworth made 50% of its shots from the floor, including 55% (6-11) from three-point range. The Pirates were nearly perfect from the free throw line, making 29-32 for 91%.

Ryan Hoff came off of the bench to led UPS with 16 points. Kaleb Shelton and Ryan Rogers each scored 11 points for the Loggers, who hit 41% of their shots. UPS went 11-26 (42%) from beyond the arc.

Whitworth remains one of only four undefeated teams in NCAA Division III. The Pirates will put their perfect mark on the line at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday night.
