orcester, MA --- Kyle Nadeau (Webster, MA) collected 15 of 18 points in the first half to lead WPI to a 89-74 victory over visiting Springfield in a key NEWMAC men's basketball contest Saturday afternoon.  The Engineers, ranked #18 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, extend their winning streak to eight and move to 15-3 overall and 5-0 in league play.  Springfield slips to 9-8 on the season and 2-3 in NEWMAC action.

Nadeau came out sizzling, draining 5 of 7 3-pointers during the opening stanza.  Three of his trifectas came within a five-minute span in the middle of the half that helped the hosts open up a 17 point halftime advantage.    

Matt Carr (Somersworth, NH) shook off a slow start for the Engineers - misfiring on his first four shots - to finish the day 7 of 14 from the field and 9 of 12 from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 23 points.  He posted game-highs of eight rebounds and three blocks to go along with four assists

Carr and Nadeau were joined in double figures by Jeffrey Robinson (Granby, CT), who scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and Jaime Shannon (Lowell, MA), who tossed in 14. 

WPI led by as many as 26 midway through the second half, only to see Springfield's hot shooting get them to within 11 at 84-73 with 1:48 left.  The Pride, who shot 55.2% from the field after intermission, had a pair of possessions to get within single digits, but did not connect on a basket the rest of the way. 

Billy Harkins (Bellmore, NY) led the Springfield charge with a career-high 20 points and game-bests of five assists and three steals.  Matt Cavalieri (West Warwick, RI) chipped in with 17 points and Even Christner (Voorheesville, NY) added nine points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench.

The contest saw the two teams combine for 50 fouls and 68 total free throw attempts.
