STORM LAKE, Iowa - Cornelius Mosby came within two rebounds of a double-double and Simpson held off a second-half rally in an 83-77 win against Buena Vista on Wednesday at Siebens Fieldhouse.

The Storm (7-9, 4-3 IIAC) held a 16-point advantage at halftime and led by as much as 18 in the second half before Buena Vista posted a furious rally.

Trailing by 16 with under 12 minutes remaining, the Beavers (6-10, 3-4 IIAC) went on an 18-3 run over the next seven minutes. Kyle Hooks started the rally with a 3-point play and his free throw with 4:25 left brought Buena Vista within one, 64-63.

But Simpson had an answer for each Buena Vista charge. An Elijah Knox free throw and a jumper from Zack Barragan pushed the lead to four. Then, with just over a minute left and Simpson nursing a four-point lead, JJ Vanderheiden converted a crucial 3-point play to extend the lead to seven.

After a pair of Michael Kaufmann free throws cut the lead to five, the Storm took 28 seconds off the shot clock before Matt Fouch hit a dagger from beyond the arc with 37 seconds left, all but sealing the win.

Playing in his third game since transferring to Simpson at the beginning of the semester, Mosby scored 14 points, pulled down eight rebounds and had one block as the Storm surpassed last year's win total.

Barragan led the way with 16 points and Vanderheiden added 11. Elijah Knox tied a career-high with eight assists.

Kaufmann's 17 points and six assists paced Buena Vista.
