NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore forward Jonathan Josselin (Medford, Mass.) led all players with 18 points as visiting Regis College defeated Salve Regina University, 75-63, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball action tonight at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

The Pride jumped to a 9-0 lead on baskets by Josselin and senior forward Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine). Salve Regina (6-7; 0-2 TCCC) then went on a 19-4 run for its largest lead of the game. Five different Seahawks scored during the run led by freshmen Jeff Bielefeld (Littleton, Mass.) and Patrick Dinneen (Medfield, Mass.) with five points apiece.

The lead changed hands six times in the first half as Regis finished it on a 6-0 run including a buzzer-beating tip-in by freshman center Robert Edwards (Idaho Falls, Idaho).

Regis (8-6; 1-1 TCCC) continued its streak with a 13-1 run to start the second half. Josselin had two layups and three free throws during that stretch. The Pride struggled overall from the charity stripe (17-for-32; 53.1%).

Seahawk freshman guard John Williamson (Littleton, Mass.) ignited a 17-6 run with a 3-pointer for Salve Regina to close the gap to six points (50-44 with 9:51 left). William Smiley's (Saunderstown, R.I.) layup with 8:11 left kept the margin at six before Michael Fernandes (Granby, Mass.) and Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) hit back-to-back 3-pointers.

Regis outrebounded Salve Regina, 47-34, led by Alibrandi and Edwards with nine apiece. Senior Derrick Neal (Brighton, Mass.) scored 16 points while Alibrandi added 13 for the visitors.

Senior point guard Ryan Birrell (Hope, R.I.) led the Seahawks with a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds). He also dished out five assists. Dinneen and Williamson finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The all-time series is now tied at two wins apiece since Regis added men's basketball to its lineup four years ago. The Pride host Curry College, the 2010 TCCC runner-up, on Saturday. Salve Regina (6-7; 0-2 TCCC) hosts University of New England, the 2009 TCCC champion, on Saturday (3 p.m.).
