Mavs Can't Overcome Big First Half Deficit

More news about: Medaille

(Hampden-Sydney, VA) – Coming off a strong win the previous day the Medaille College men's basketball team was not able to duplicate that feat as they fell (92-73) to Hampden-Sydney in the championship game of the hosts Holiday Tournament.

The Mavs fell victim to a hot shooting team that also capitalized on Medaille miscues.  The Tigers shot a blistering (57.8%) from the floor for the game and turned (15) Medaille turnovers into (25) points on the other end of the floor.  Each team pulled down (34) rebounds and knocked down a combined (16) three pointers.  At the half Medaille was down (42-23) and that deficit proved to be too much to overcome.

The Mavs were led by senior Ricky Reed (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) who had a team high (19) points and (6) assists.  Fellow senior Ron Malicki (Machias, NY/Pioneer) chipped in with (16) points and (5) rebounds and was selected to the All-Tournament Team for his strong play in both games.

The loss snaps a five game winning streak for the Mavs and it moves them to (7-4) on the season.  They will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday (1/5) as they return home for an AMCC matchup with crosstown rival Hilbert College at 8:00pm in the Sullivan Center.
