More news about: Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In 24 games last year the Gallaudet University men's basketball team only posted five wins but flash forward to this season and the Bison now have six wins in their first eight games of play. GU picked up win number six on Wednesday evening as it edged Penn St.-Abington 88-83 at the Field House between the two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foes.

Gallaudet (6-2, 3-0 NEAC) sits atop the standings in the NEAC as the Bison are off to a terrific start to the 2010-11 season.

Junior forward Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) led all scorers on Wednesday as he matched his career high of 24 points to go with a game best seven assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Seeber wasn't the lone Bison to surpass 20 points as sophomore forward Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) came off the bench to post a monster game. Kelly scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to earn his second double-double this season, fifth as a Bison.

The two teams played an equal first half as they went into halftime tied at 34. Both teams shot 35 percent from the field in the opening frame. Penn St.-Abington (0-7, 0-4 NEAC) held a slight edge in shooting percentage in the second half but lucky for Gallaudet it scored a few more points (54 to 49) to win the conference game. GU made 14-of-23 free-throw attempts in the second half while the Nittany Lions only went to the charity stripe nine times and made seven. The two teams both drained six 3-pointers in the second half and nine in the game.

Senior guard Luther Weedon (Walkersville, Md.) came off the bench for the Bison to hit three 3-pointers in the second half. He finished the game with nine points. Junior guard Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) was the third Bison in double figures with 17 points and seven boards. Junior forward Daniel Fava (Baltimore, Md.) ripped down a career best 15 rebounds in the win.

The Bison will hit the road on Saturday, December 11, to face Penn St.-Harrisburg in a 3 p.m. conference game.
