Bobcats down Hilbert earn first conference victory

GREENSBURG, PA- David Palmer (Pittsburgh, PA/Westinghouse) led all scorers with 22 points and the Bobcats used a huge early second half run to defeat Hilbert College 85-60 Saturday evening in Chambers Hall.  UPG picks up their first conference win of the season, improving to 1-3 heading into the holiday break.

"I think we are starting to get on track, taking the next step as a team and starting put all the pieces together." said Josh Kucenic (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) who scored 19 points on 3-4 shooting from behind the arc.

Pitt-Greensburg held on to a 38-37 lead going into the break after a hard fought first half by both teams.  The Bobcats opened the second half on an 18-2 run that covered 6:30, propelling UPG to a 60-41 lead with 13:31 remaining.

"Coach Strickland gave the guys a great game plan and speech at the half." added assistant Coach Cody Hartzler.  "But it came down to our guys being able to execute and they did a great job in the second half."

The Bobcats shot an astonishing 16-24 (66.7%) from the floor in the second half including 4-4 from three and 6-6 from the foul line.  Kucenic paced the perimeter shooting going 3-4 from 3-point land, scoring 13 of his 19 points in the second half.

Point guard Damian Founds (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) score 16 points, dished out five assists and earned five steals while controlling the pace of the game.

"Any win that you can get in the AMCC is a good win." said Hartzler "The conference is tough from top to bottom so any time you can get a win especially on your home floor is huge."
