GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team dominated the offensive and defensive glass sending D'Youville to its sixth consecutive loss, 94-49, in Bristol Gym this afternoon. The Statesmen, who never trailed in the contest, outrebounded the Spartans 60-28.

At plus 32, it's the most lopsided rebounding margin by a Hobart team since at least 1999-2000. The 60 boards are the most by the Statesmen in a game during that same time frame. The Hobart game record is 79, set in 1979. Senior forward Adam Salzmann led the way with a game-high 10 rebounds, while first-year forward Richie Bonney corralled nine caroms.

In the scoring column, junior forward Matt Pebole recorded a game-high 16 points and six rebounds, while first-year guard Blair Helton added 12 points. Sophomore guard Stefan Thompson notched nine points, six rebounds, and a game-high five assists. Senior guardMark Bruce also had nine points. Every Statesman played at least four minutes and 13 of 16 scored.

Senior forward Shane Canahai was the only D'Youville player to reach double figures, finishing with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

Hobart (3-1) made its first four shots from the floor and raced out to a 10-0 lead. A 9-2 run pushed the Statesmen lead to 16, 23-7, barely five minutes into the game. The Spartans (0-6) scored the next seven points to shave its deficit to nine, but Hobart scored the game's next 10 points to put its lead into double digits for good. The Statesmen led by as many as 31 in the opening 20 minutes, carrying a 60-34 lead into halftime.

Hobart shot 51.3 percent from the floor in the first half (46.5% for the game), including 6-of-11 from behind the three-point arc (8-of-18). The Statesmen made as many free throws in the first half (14) as the visitors attempted in the entire game. 

The 60 points are the most in a half by Hobart since scoring 61 in the second half against Vassar on Feb. 22, 2003. It's the best opening half performance by the Statesmen since at least 1999-2000.

Hobart will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 1 when the Statesmen play in the opening round of the Wendy's College Classic. The eight-team tournament's pairings will be announced on Nov. 28.
