WAVERLY - The junior duo of guard Cole Danielson of Marshalltown and forward Jordan Sathoff of Packwood helped lead Wartburg College during an 84-76 loss to Bethany Lutheran Nov. 23.

The Knights, suffering their first loss of the 2010-11 campaign to go to 3-1, rallied back at nearly every turn in front of a home crowd at Levick Arena. Coach Dick Peth's team trailed by as many as seven midway through the first half (28-21) but overcame that to hold a three-point edge (53-50) early in the second frame. BLC (3-2) rolled back out to as much as a nine-point cushion (78-69) in the waning moments before the Orange and Black cut the margin to 78-74 after Sathoff hit two free throws with 1:14 left. The visiting Vikings iced the affair with a pair of free throws each from Patrick Garvin and Derek Peterson in the final 30 seconds.

Danielson recorded a big effort for Peth's crew. He scored 26 points, which included four three-pointers, was six-of-eight at the line, pulled down six rebounds, and recorded three assists. Sathoff earned his second successive and fourth career double-double with 15 points and 10 boards to go along with a co-team best two steals. Freshman forward Eddie Diemer of Cedar Falls picked up two of six blocked shots for the Knights and also had five assists.

Bethany Lutheran had five players finish in double figures. Alex Weldon topped the list with 18 points.

Peth's team continues its Thanksgiving week schedule with a game against Grinnell College Saturday, Nov. 27. Tip-off is 4 p.m. inside Levick Arena of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center.

Notes – Danielson's outing eclipsed his previous single-game career high of 25 points, scored against Buena Vista during his freshman season. … Sathoff, dating back to 2009-10, has compiled seven consecutive double-figure scoring games. … The Knights' game against the Pioneers Saturday ends a run of six consecutive non-league games with the 2010-11 Iowa Conference opener following Wednesday, Dec. 1, against Cornell College of Mount Vernon. Wartburg's next non-league game after that isn't until Martin Luther College of New Ulm, Minn., comes to Waverly Friday, Dec. 10, as a three-game league swing begins with the Rams' visit to Levick Arena.
