Cabrini, which lost in the national title game in 2012, showed itself primed for another run in 2013. The Cavaliers knocked off No. 16 Hampden-Sydney 80-78 on the road.

Jeremy Knowles scored 24 points to lead Cabrini past the Tigers. Harrison George had 25 for Hampden-Sydney.

Host sites for next weekend's games will be announced Sunday afternoon.

Both NESCAC teams won their opening round games, but not by much. No. 7 Middlebury held off Curry 68-66 and No. 8 Williams edged Wesley 79-78. Michael Mayer made two free throws with 13 seconds left to give the Ephs the breathing room they needed. Wesley's Paul Reynolds scored 35 points on 14-for-19 shooting in a full 40 minutes. Rochester didn't win by much either, needing pretty much all of John DiBartolomeo's 42 points to beat 16-11 Fitchburg State 91-86.

Dickinson hit its first six 3-pointers and rode the emotion of a packed Kline Center past Marietta, 80-65. Adam Honig scored 32 points for the Red Devils, including the 1,000th of his career. Dickinson's only previous victory in the NCAA tournament came in the 1980 third place regional consolation game.

D3hoops.com correctly projected 17 of the 19 at-large bids in the Division III men's basketball NCAA Tournament. The other two teams were eliminated before the sun went down Saturday, as Emory rolled past Randolph and Christopher Newport defeated Rutgers-Newark in early first-round action.

Jake Davis scored a game-high 25 points and Emory held Randolph star Colton Hunt to 14 points on 5-for-13 shooting as the WildCats' first NCAA Tournament experience ended in a 77-56 defeat. Emory, in the field for the first time since 1990, advances to play Whitworth, likely on the road. Randolph had leapt out to a 9-2 lead but Emory answered with a 30-8 run and it never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Christopher Newport got 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting from Nik Biberaj in an 84-72 win against Rutgers-Newark. CNU jumped out to a 13-4 lead and was up by as many as 22 in the second half before the lead was cut to nine with 24 seconds left.

The NJAC's NCAA woes continued. Elgin Brown and Stephon Treadwell scored 24 points apiece but it wasn't nearly enough as Morrisville State, the champions of the NEAC, knocked off No. 15 Ramapo 86-77. The loss left the NJAC without a win since Richard Stockton won in the national semifinals in 2009, having gone 0-9 since. The Mustangs won behind four scorers in double figures, including Mickey Davis' team-high 19.

Defending champion UW-Whitewater jumped out to a 17-3 lead in the opening minutes, then pulled away again at the end to defeat Dubuque 58-42. The Spartans got as close as 39-33 midway through the second half but Quardell Young (14 points) hit a pair of layups and Darnell Harris sunk two 3-pointers to push the No. 5 Warhawks back out comfortably in front.

Calvin showed its national ranking was more accurate than its NCAA regional ranking, defeating Rose-Hulman 72-52 in the first men's NCAA Tournament game in Terre Haute since 1997. Tom Snikkers led Calvin with 20 points on 9-for-14 shooting.

Wade Gebbers and Colton McCargar scored 21 points apiece as Whitworth rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat Redlands 75-69 and advance to the second round.

No. 11 St. Mary's defeated No. 24 MIT 85-76 behind 19 from Nick Laguerre and 17 from Donn Hill. The Seahawks shot 8-for-15 from 3-point range in the win. Will Tashman shot 23 for the Engineers, while Justin Pedley scored 21 on 7-for-13 from 3-point range. The rest of the team was 1-for-9 from beyond the arc.

Alex Berthiaume scored a game-high 35 points but Ithaca countered with 25 points and 15 rebounds from Travis Warech and Frank Mitchell added another double-double with 17 and 11 as Ithaca topped Springfield 89-77.

Randolph-Macon was the first team to win a first-round game as Lamar Giggets scored a game-high 19 points and Marcus Badger scored 10 of his 14 in the second half to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 69-60 win against Stevens. The game was played at Lehman College in the Bronx because of the NCAA's sanctions against the state of New Jersey.

Cortland State placed five scorers in double figures as the Red Dragons ran away from Elms in the second half en route to an 85-59 win. Lamard Herron was stellar off the bench with 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting.

Nate Koenig scored 19 and Shawn Holmes added 17 as Catholic defeated Staten Island 67-61. It's the Cardinals' first NCAA Tournament win since the opening round of 2007 against Messiah. "It's March; it's win or go home, and we don't want to go home right now," said Shawn Holmes, who added 16.
