No. 9 New York University finished its Southern California road swing with a come-from-behind win at Redlands while Carleton also left the West Coast with a win and Rowan edged Mary Washington. In women’s action, Hardin-Simmons topped Trinity (Texas) in a Texas-style Top 25 tussle.

No. 9 New York University outscored Redlands 11-1 in the closing minutes and rallied past the Bulldogs, 82-79, dealing Redlands its first loss of the season.

Redlands held a 78-71 lead after Kendrick Currey converted a three-point play with 2:51 remaining in the second half. NYU responded by scoring on its next five possessions and took an 80-78 lead on Zay Freeney’s jumper with 46 seconds remaining.

Currey stopped the Violets’ run by splitting a pair of free throws and the Bulldogs got the ball back by forcing a turnover with 18 seconds remaining. But Spencer Freedman stole the ball back for NYU, got fouled and hit two free throws. NYU fouled Redlands before the Bulldogs could attempt a potential game-tying three and Redlands missed both free throws, setting the final score at 82-79.

Freedman finished with nine points and 11 assists and Freeney scored 17 points for NYU before fouling out late (5-1). Currey paced Redlands (4-1) with 28 points, five assists and five steals in 32 minutes.

Minnesota-based Carleton didn’t have to travel as far to play No. 23 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, but the Knights will also have a happy trip home from SoCal. They knocked off the Staggs 83-75 behind Luke Harris’ 29-point performance.

No. 25 UW-Oshkosh held off No. 21 North Park 69-64 in the lone meeting between ranked teams. The Titans got a combined 48 points from the backcourt trio of Will Mahoney, Quinn Steckbauer, and Carter Thomas. UW-Oshkosh outscored the Vikings 36-9 from behind the arc.

Booty Butler’s three-pointer with four seconds left in overtime was the difference as Rowan edged Mary Washington, 76-75, at Christopher Newport’s weekend tournament. After Rowan’s Khalif Meares hit two free throws and tied the game at 73 with 13 seconds left, the Eagles regained the lead on Zack Blue’s layup. The Pros inbounded the ball and Butler hit the game winning shot on just his second made field goal of the game.

Ja’Zere Noel poured in 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Rowan (4-1). Mary Washington (3-2) hung close despite turning over the ball 21 times and going 0 for 12 from three.

David Arsenault, Jr. reached the 100-win milestone in fitting fashion as Grinnell’s System offense churned out 25 three-pointers in a 148-123 victory over Lake Forest. Grinnell (5-1) got 93 points from its reserves in the victory.

On the women’s side, No. 16 Hardin-Simmons outlasted No. 12 Trinity (Texas) 92-89 in overtime, giving the Cowgirls a measure of revenge for their season-ending loss to the Tigers in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

After Trinity (Texas) pulled even at 84-all on Bailey Timmons’ three with 1:08 to play, Hardin-Simmons called timeout to set up an answer. HSU guard Anna Fanelli found Paris Kiser who nailed a three that put the Cowgirls back in front, 87-84. Maggie Robbins’ responded with a layup for the Tigers and then she fouled Parris Parmer who sank two free throws, pushing HSU’s lead back to three. Off a Trinity miss, Parmer grabbed the defensive rebound and got fouled. She added two more free throws and effectively put the game out of reach.

Kiser led four players for Hardin-Simmons (4-0) in double-digit scoring with 23 points, including a 5-for-8 showing from three. Natalie Anderson and Robbins combined for 39 points and 15 rebounds for Trinity (4-1).

Wartburg survived a scare at home from UW-Eau Claire, holding off the Blugolds 62-59 and upping its record to 5-0. Macy Harris and Jaedon Murphy combined for 31 points for Wartburg which travels to No. 19 Loras on Wednesday night.

Claire Brock and Mary Schleusner put on a show before Brock’s Emory Eagles pulled out an 86-78 victory at Washington and Lee. Brock scored 39 points on 13-for-21 shooting, including seven 3-pointers, for Emory, which also got 18 points off the bench from Katherine Marini. Schleusner tallied 38 points, one shy of the program record, and 13 rebounds for the Generals (4-1).

In a showdown between preseason All-Americans, Damaris Rodriguez scored 24 points and got enough help from her New Jersey City teammates to beat SUNY New Paltz, 75-71, despite Brianna Fitzgerald posting 24 points for the Hawks. Fitzgerald also had 12 rebounds and 11 turnovers before fouling out.  The Gothic Knights converted 25 SUNY New Paltz turnovers into 30 points.
