After picking up her 600th win just five years ago, Kris Huffman has reached another milestone in her coaching career.

DePauw’s Kris Huffman joined the elite group of coaches with 700 wins in Division III women’s basketball on Friday night when the Tigers dismantled Calvin, 76-48.

After a close first quarter, DePauw started to pull away midway through the second quarter with a 6-0 run that staked the Tigers to a 30-21 lead. DePauw finished the period with a layup by Ainsley Boras and two free throws from Ava Hassel, giving the Tigers a 36-26 halftime lead.

The Tigers blew the game open in the third period, outscoring the Knights 29-10 on 65 percent shooting (11 for 17). Moira McGinley scored 14 points in 18 minutes and Riley Mont added 13 more for DePauw (1-1).

With the win, Huffman joins Andy Yosinoff of Emmanuel (900 wins), Mike Miller of Messiah (738) and Michael Durbin of St. Benedict (736) as the only active Division III women’s basketball coaches with 700 wins. Huffman is ninth all-time for coaching victories among those who have spent the majority of their career at the Division III level.

Huffman led DePauw to national championships in 2007 and 2013 and has been named the conference coach of the year 14 times, winning 21 conference titles.

DePauw continues its season with a home game against No. 24 Millikin on Saturday at 6 pm ET.
