Albertus Magnus upset No. 1 St. Joseph (Conn.) and sent the last undefeated team in Division III men’s hoops into the NCAA Tournament with a loss. Meanwhile, Schreiner completed its Cinderella run, Sewanee stunned Berry, and everything went according to form on the women’s side.

Albertus Magnus overcame foul trouble, a raucous crowd and the No. 1 team in the country to win the GNAC’s automatic bid, 83-79.

After trailing much of the game, No. 1 St. Joseph (Conn.) pulled even with Albertus Magnus at 77-all on Chaylyn Martin’s jumper with 2:34 to play. Nursing four fouls, Terry Dawkins scored three straight to put Albertus Magnus back up 80-77 before Jake Sullivan’s made jumper pulled the Blue Jays back within one. Tahzon Daniels sank two free throws on the ensuing Albertus Magnus possession and the Blue Jays missed two game-tying three-point attempts.

Dawkins led Albertus Magnus (19-9) with 19 points. Justice Washington, who was one of three Falcons to foul out, had a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) before departing. Jake Sullivan tallied 15 points and nine rebounds for St. Joseph (27-1), which is a lock for an at-large bid.

The Blue Jays’ loss means that the run of Division III Men’s Tournaments without an undefeated team continues, going back to 2016 when Benedictine and Lancaster Bible both had perfect regular seasons. The 1998 UW-Platteville squad is the last men’s team to complete an undefeated season with a national championship.

Schreiner completed its Cinderella run to the NCAA Tournament with a 69-67 win at Trinity (Texas) in the SCAC title game. The Mountaineers, who needed to beat Texas Lutheran just to make their conference tournament, followed up yesterday’s 65-64 win over top-seed St. Thomas with another dramatic win. After Trinity tied the game at 69, the Mountaineers got the ball to Alex Dehoyos who was fouled with three seconds left. He made both free throws and the Tigers missed a potential game-winning three at the buzzer.

Schreiner (15-13) enters the Tournament despite going 6-10 in conference during the regular season.

Sewanee won the SAA’s automatic bid in stunning fashion as the Tigers scored eight points in the final 28 seconds to beat No. 22 Berry, 86-82.

After Blake Campbell’s dunk gave Berry an 82-78 lead, Sewanee cut the deficit in half with two Russ Marr free throws with 28 seconds remaining. Berry missed the front half of its one-and-one bonus and Colin Kahl grabbed the rebound for Sewanee. On the Tigers’ ensuing possession, Marr got the ball, got fouled and made his first free throw. He missed the second, but the Tigers got the rebound and found Tre Corrigan who hit the go-ahead three-pointer. Berry turned the ball over and Luka Avaliani scored a layup at the buzzer for Sewanee (19-9).

In other men’s finals:

• No. 2 Randolph-Macon made its bid to return to the top of the national rankings by defeating No. 13 Guilford, 61-48, for the ODAC title. Daniel Mbangue scored 18 points in 27 minutes for the Yellow Jackets (27-1).
• All five UW-Whitewater starters scored double figures and the Warhawks rolled over No. 12 UW-Oshkosh, 92-79, for the WIAC’s automatic bid. Trevon Chisolm dropped 29 points and grabbed nine boards for the Warhawks who knocked the Titans’ into the at-large pool.
• Connor Rood scored 22 points to lead Hamilton over Bates 71-59 in the NESCAC title game. The Continentals (19-8) shot 68 percent and scored 50 points in the second half.
• St. Lawrence only scored 11 points in the second half but the Saints held RPI scoreless in overtime and won the Liberty League title, 50-42.  

On the women's side, all the teams sitting on the bubble and waiting for an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament breathed a collective sigh of relief as the favorites won their automatic bids, mostly in dominant fashion.

No. 5 Trinity (Texas) held Coloardo College to four points in the second quarter and made sure there was not another Tigers-on-Tigers upset like there was a couple weeks ago. The Tigers from Texas defeated the Tigers from Colorado, 64-54, behind a 17-point, five-rebound performance from Jose Napoli. Trinity led 51-30 entering the fourth quarter.

No. 10 Gustavus Adolphus dominated Concordia-Moorhead, 79-57, for the MIAC title and stayed out of the at-large pool. The Gusties shot 77 percent and hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter. They finished the game with a 48 percent field goal percentage and five players scoring double figures, led by Kylie Baranick's 24 points. Gustavus also went 20 for 25 from the foul line with Baranick making all 12 of her attempts.

Washington and Lee might have been the last team to receive an at-large bid into the 2022 Tournament, but the Generals won't need one this time. They defeated seventh-seed Shenandoah, 73-57, to win the ODAC's automatic bid. Mary Schleusner scored 10 of her 30 poitns in the decisive third quarter that the Generals won, 27-9.

In games where both teams are likely to make the NCAA Tournament:

• Tufts held No. 16 Trinity (Conn.) to five points in the fourth quarter and blasted the Bantams 57-38 in the NESCAC title game. Maggie Russell racked up 16 points, 14 rebounds and five assists for the Jumbos (21-6) who made seven 3-pointers.
  
  
• No. 4 Smith topped No. 12 Babson 67-52 for the NEWMAC's automatic bid in front of a capacity crowd at Scott Gymnasium. Ally Yamada scored 16 points off the bench and Morgan Morrison notched another double-double for the Pioneers (25-1) who will likely be the top seed in the NCAA Tournament.
  
  
• Even without All-American Aleah Grundahl, No. 21 UW-Whitewater handled UW-Eau Claire 71-62 in the WIAC tournament finale. Kaci Carollo carried the load, scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds for the Warhawks (21-6). 
  
  
• Skidmore held off No. 15 Ithaca 54-52 to win the Liberty League title on the road. The Thorobreads made 17 of their 24 free throws and had a 23-11 bench scoring advantage. 
  
  
• Gettysburg went on the road and beat Johns Hopkins 65-52 for the Centennial Conference championship. Alayna Arnolie paced the Bullets with 15 points and Shinya Lee had a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) for Gettysburg (21-6).
