Concordia-Chicago allowed men's basketball coach Steve Kollar was allowed to return to his administrative duties with the Cougars after his CUC team had six players go to the hospital after a particularly punishing workout

Over the last week of December, Concordia-Chicago traveled to Southern California and picked up its first two losses of the season, against Cal Lutheran (now 7-8) and Whittier (now 4-11). The team also apparently broke curfew on the trip. A letter which CUC athletic director Pete Gnan sent team members and parents states that some believe the intensity of the team practice was a consequence of the breaking of curfew.

The student-athletes went to the emergency room with symptoms related to rhabdomyolysis. The syndrome can be caused by a muscle injury and releases a damaging protein into the blood which can damage the heart and kidneys and perhaps cause permanent disability or death.

Following Kollar's return, the university's athletics training staff have all left the department. CBS 2 in Chicago reported that they resigned.

The four -- Christopher Anderson, Rebecca Delahunty, Kimberlee Kistler and Melissa Martinez -- have been removed from the Concordia-Chicago athletics staff directory. It was unclear how CUC would meet athletic training staff requirements for team practices and contests, including the Cougars' women's basketball game at Aurora on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

When contacted by D3sports.com, Concordia-Chicago athletics declined to comment.
