One of Division III’s newest members – and one of the few remaining schools without a conference affiliation – found a home, as Warren Wilson announced it will join the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference effective this upcoming season.

"We are very excited to have Warren Wilson join the C2C family," said C2C commissioner Chris Roekle in the joint press release. "[Interim president] Bill Christy and [athletic director] Robin Martin have all the right pieces in place and I am confident the Owls have a bright future."

Warren Wilson is entering the second year in its four-year transition to NCAA Division III membership and would become a full member at the start of the 2024-25 season. The school previously competed in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association in the same conference as fellow provisional member Bob Jones.

Warren Wilson brings the C2C membership up to seven members for men’s sports and back to eight for several women’s sports after the Conference lost Mills College. That school merged with Northeastern (Calif.) University in East Oakland and ended its intercollegiate athletics program.

Warren Wilson will compete in the C2C for men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse. The women’s volleyball program is scheduled to start 2023-24.

As the conference’s name suggests, C2C membership is spread across the country from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., to UC Santa Cruz in Northern California. Located in Western North Carolina, Warren Wilson is 428 miles from its closest C2C member, Mary Washington in Virginia.

Division III basketball will have four schools without a conference affiliation next season – Trinity (D.C.), which only has women's sports; Maranatha Baptist in Watertown, Wis.; Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C.; and provisional member Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky.
