St. Vincent has opened the position of head men's basketball coach.

"On behalf of the athletic department we thank Dr. Terrance Smith for the service and dedication he demonstrated as head men's basketball coach for the past three seasons," said Rev. Myron Kirsch, O.S.B., St. Vincent athletic director. "We wish him the best as he moves forward in his future endeavors."

Smith took over from D.P. Harris, who led the Bearcats to a 318-126 record in 16 seasons. The Bearcats, an NAIA power in basketball, won four consecutive PAC titles from 2013 to 2016 but lost in the first round of the Division III NCAA Tournament each time. Over Smith's three seasons, one of which was shortened by COVID, the Bearcats went 18-44, including 3-22 this season.

A national search for the next head men's basketball coach will commence immediately.

The school will have no further comment on this matter.
