Stockton hires new women's coach

Devin Jefferson Stockton University has named Devin Jefferson, who had been the associate head coach at Division FDU-Teaneck as its new head women's basketball coach. She replaces Joe Fussner who retired in March after 26 years atop the Ospreys' program.

"I am honored to be the next women's basketball coach at Stockton University," Jefferson said in the University's release. "The program is in an exciting place and I look forward to meeting my team and getting to know all of them."

Jefferson has 10 years of college coaching experience, mostly at the Division I level. She spent the last five season at Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J. on the staff of Peter Cinella. Jefferson was the Knights' recruiting coordinator and involved in preparing scouting reports.

Prior to that Jefferson spent three seasons as an assistant at Division I Vermont from 2010 to 2013 and two seasons as assistant at Division II Bloomfield (N.J.). She also was the head coach at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in New Jersey from 2004 to 2006.

Jefferson played first at Mitchell College during its time as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) before it transitioned to NCAA Division III. She then transferred and played three seasons at Seton Hall where she earned her bachelor's degree in 2001 and master's degree in 2003.

Jefferson takes over a program that finished in third place in the NJAC the past three seasons. The Ospreys graduated All-American forward Sasha Williams and first-team All-Conference forward Naijha Treadwell.

Stockton finished 18-9, 13-5 in the NJAC last season.
