Pitt-Greensburg named Hayley Schaetzle as its new head women's basketball coach. She was previously a graduate assistant to Roz Fornari at Penn State-Behrend and was briefly interim coach when Fornari retired.

University Director of Athletics Anthony Berich announced the hiring on Thursday, July 6.

"We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to bring Hayley to the University to lead our women's basketball program. She comes to us from the NCAA Division I level (University at Buffalo), but her roots are DIII," said Berich in the University's release.  

Schaetzle attended Manchester where she won a varsity letter in her freshman year as point guard. After a career ending injury in her sophomore season, Schaetzle shifted her attention to coaching, working as an assistant coach for the local Junior High School. 

After graduating from Manchester with honors, Schaetzle moved to AMCC member Penn State-Behrend where she was a graduate assistant for two seasons under Roz Fornari. When Fornari retired in 2014, Schaetzle briefly served as interim coach during the offseason. Schaetzle then moved north across the New York border to become the Director of Operations at Division I Buffalo. 

"I would like to thank both Dr. Smith (campus president) and Mr. Berich for the opportunity and for the confidence they have in me to lead the Pitt-Greensburg Women's Basketball program," said Schaetzle in the release. "I am excited to work with high-character young women in developing a culture where Bobcat basketball finishes at the top of the AMCC in the pursuit of competing annually in the NCAA Tournament."

Schaetzle replaces Erin Eaton who went 80-102 in seven seasons with the Bobcats.

The Bobcats finished 9-16,  8-10 in the AMCC last season.
