Former Baylor women's basketball assistant coach Edsel Hamilton has been named the new head women's basketball coach at East Texas Baptist, while former Baylor men's basketball assistant coach Mark Morefield was named head women's coach at Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Hamilton joins ETBU after an eight-year stint as an assistant coach and most recently as director of basketball operations at Baylor. During Hamilton's tenure with Baylor, the Bears won the 2012 Division I national championship, played in two Final Fours, five Elite Eights, and seven Sweet 16 games. Baylor also won six Big 12 tournament championships and five regular season championships.

Morefield will officially assume head coaching duties on April 27 as he takes over a program that finished 13-13 overall and fell in the first round of the American Southwest Conference tournament last season. Morefield is the ninth UMHB women's basketball coach in the program's history.

"We are excited to have someone of Mark's experience joining our women's basketball program," Randy Mann, vice president for athletics at UMHB, said. "Mark is highly energetic and has a proven track record as a recruiter. We look forward to a bright future under his guidance."

Morefield spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Baylor. The Bears advanced to two NCAA Tournaments during his tenure, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2010. Morefield also coached three future NBA players at Baylor, with two of those going in the first round of the NBA draft.

Morefield spent last season as the boys' basketball coach at Vanguard College Preparatory School in Waco. He led the Vikings to a 26-5 record and the TAPPS Sweet 16.

Starting out as a graduate assistant in 2007 at Baylor working as the video coordinator Hamilton has been promoted three times to his current position as the director of basketball operations. After two years as the graduate assistant he moved to the coordinator of video operations for two years. In 2011-12 he was then promoted to coordinator of basketball operations and then in 2012 named the director of basketball operations.

Morefield replaces Lisa Curliss-Taylor, who was 39-40 in three seasons at UMHB, and 96-88 as a Division III head coach. Hamilton replaces Dustin Howard, who was 35-40 in three seasons.
