No. 4 Dickinson and No. 16 Franklin and Marshall lost on Saturday afternoon and No. 13 Johns Hopkins needed a huge rally to avoid becoming the third ranked Centennial Conference team to lose.
Gerry Wixted had a look at the top of the key at the buzzer but could not convert as Ursinus held on to knock off the No. 4 Dickinson Red Devils 53-50.
Malik Draper scored 14 and Matt Knowles added 12 for Ursinus, which improved to 9-12, 6-8 in the Centennial, after dropping its first seven games.
Washington College won for just the third time all season, and it was a big one as the Shoremen knocked off Franklin and Marshall 81-80 in overtime. Dave Knox and James Drury scored 19 points each and freshman guard Joey Shelton made what would prove to be the difference-making free throws. The Diplomats tried to find an open look for Brandon Federici but couldn't, and he took an open layup with 0.5 seconds left to cut Washington College's lead to one. The Shoremen easily inbounded the ball and time expired.
Trailing big for most of the game, No. 13 Johns Hopkins rallied, scoring the go-ahead basket on a traditional three-point play by Ryan Curran with 24 seconds to go and holding on as Swarthmore's 3-point attempt in the closing seconds went awry and the Blue Jays won 56-55.
Joey Flannery had a huge day for No. 11 Babson as the Beavers edged No. 10 WPI 59-55. Flannery scored 36 points, including 12 of Babson's last 13 as the Beavers erased a six-point deficit with a 14-4 run to close the game.
No. 3 Marietta shot over 50 percent from the floor for the fifth straight game and defeated Wilmington 85-75. The Pioneers, who are the last undefeated team in Division III men's basketball at 21-0, set a new program mark for victories to start the season.
No. 1 UW-Whitewater and No. 15 UW-Stevens Point cleared their last hurdles before their rematch on Wedneday night. The top-ranked Warhawks outscored UW-Eau Claire by 20 in the paint and 77-62 overall, picking up their 13th straight win. The Pointers beat UW-Platteville 67-55 behind Joe Ritchay's double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds).
No. 25 William Paterson blew past Rutgers-Newark 95-61 and Ramapo edged No. 17 Richard Stockton 52-46, giving Paterson sole possession of first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with four games left in the conference regular season.
No. 5 Randolph-Macon continues to win games late, this time pushing past Washington and Lee 82-77 in overtime. Joe Hassell had 18 points, six of them in overtime, and 11 rebounds for the Yellowjackets (19-2, 12-0). Clayton Murtha scored 31 points in 42 minutes for the Generals (8-13, 5-7).
No. 9 St. Norbert became the first team to clinch a conference championship as the Green Knights cruised past Beloit, 74-53. It's St. Norbert's fifth MWC title in six seasons. Denision beat No. 20 Wooster 76-72 and sent the skidding Scots to their third loss in four games. Briggs King lived up to his surname with 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Big Red (13-8, 7-7 NCAC).
Wheaton (Ill.) used a 12-2 second-half run to pull away from No. 18 Elmhurst for a 76-68 victory, and push the Bluejays another game back in the conference race. The Thunder won for just the second time in seven games. No. 6 Augustana held Carthage to just six field goals in a 60-29 blowout. Carthage shot 13 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 21 times in producing its lowest point total since 1945.

Caltech won a second consecutive SCIAC game for the first time since 1970-71, as Nasser Al-Rayes led five starters in double figured with a game-high 22 points as the Beavers defeated Whittier 92-77. Caltech shot 11-for-25 from 3-point range in the win and improve to 3-17, 2-9.
In a battle for a share of first place in the Freedom Conference, Chris Moran hit a 3-pointer from just inside halfcourt to lift Delaware Valley past DeSales 77-74. The Aggies erased a late four-point deficit and survived two potential go-ahead free throws in the final three seconds before Moran banked in his long shot. Watch Moran's shot here.
The win keeps the Aggies in a tie for first with Misericordia, which won at Wilkes 79-77 behind 20 points from Griffin Sponaugle.
New Jersey City scored the final nine points of the game to squeak out a 63-58 win vs. TCNJ and remain in the NJAC playoff hunt. The Gothic Knights improved to 9-11 overall and evened their NJAC mark at 7-7, winning for the sixth time in seven games after a 3-10 start.
Trine shot 76 percent from the floor in the second half and led by as many as 19 points, defeating Kalamazoo 72-60. Jared Holmquist scored 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting for the Thunder, who remained in a tie for first place in the MIAA with Calvin.
Southern Vermont kept rolling through the NECC with a 94-76 win over Mitchell. Joshua Ford grabbed the 1,000th rebound of his Mitchell career in the same game. ... Billy Selmon's break-away layup with 26 seconds left lifted Bates over Hamilton 73-71. ... Anderson edged Transylvania 68-67 in a game with two lead changes in the final 30 seconds. Justin Jordan's off-balance runner with six seconds left was the difference. ... Eli McEathron scored 15 points including the game-winning three with six seconds left as Shenandoah surprise Guilford 56-53. ... Justin Rosa became the third player in Lesley men's basketball history to score 1,000 points in a career but Becker still topped the Lynx 61-45.
