Sarah Gaffney returns to Upstate New York where she started her college basketball career.

Keuka has named Sarah Gaffney as the 12th women's basketball head coach in program history.

Gaffney, who has served as the assistant women's basketball coach at Division II Eckerd (Fla.) the last three years, will take over the day-to-day operations for the Storm's women's basketball program.

This is her first head coaching position, and Gaffney is excited for the challenge of taking over a program that has compiled an overall record of 172-78 (.688) over the last decade, with four Division III Tournament appearances in the last eight seasons.

"I have always respected athletic director Dave Sweet and was impressed by his vision for the athletics department," said Gaffney, a 2006 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica and a 2009 graduate of UNC-Greensboro.

Keuka has advanced to the NEAC postseason tournament every season during the its 10-year history. The Storm have a 19-4 all-time record in NEAC tournament (best in  the conference), winning six of the 10 conference championships (2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2008-09, 2010-11, 2011-12).

"I plan to continue the winning tradition here at Keuka College by recruiting quality, coachable student-athletes," said Gaffney, who also served as the director of basketball operations at Division I Elon.

Gaffney, a point guard at Mohawk Valley Community College from 2004-06, was named both a first-team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American and the NJCAA's Region III Athlete of the Year, and also earned national Student-Athlete of the Year from the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA).

Coaching runs in Gaffney's family, as both her father and cousin are currently head basketball coaches at Georgia Highlands Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College, respectively.

Gaffney replaces Katie Marcella who went 32-15 in two seasons.
