David Buchanan has resigned as head men’s coach and director of athletic advancement at Carroll to become the director of basketball operations at Drake.

Buchanan compiled a record of 63-37, including 43-27 in the Midwest Conference, in four seasons as the Pioneers head coach.

“I’ve truly enjoyed my four seasons at Carroll,” said Buchanan. “There so many great memories that I will take with me, and nothing can compare to the relationships I’ve been able to develop with all of the players and the coaching staff. I’ve been blessed to work with great young men that all share the same dream of winning championships.”

During his tenure, Buchanan’s teams qualified for three Midwest Conference tournaments, including a MWC Tournament title in the 2011-2012 season. In all three years, the team advanced to the MWC Tournament championship game.

Following the team’s 2011-2012 MWC Tournament, the Pioneers stunned No. 16 Transylvannia in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Carroll lost to No. 22 Wittenberg in the second round.

“The amazing support that our alumni have offered has been something that I will always cherish as well,” added Buchanan. “We would have an alumni presence at nearly every game we played, and that kind of commitment and passion is something I will never forget. The men’s basketball program is in a better place today because of the committed players I’ve been fortunate to coach and the passionate alumni and friends that support us on a daily basis.”
