Ripon senior post player Aris Wurtz and Chicago senior post Taylor Simpson were named the 2012 Jostens Trophy winners, D3sports.com has learned.

The two were at the top of the balloting from a national committee which evaluated 10 men's finalists and 10 women's finalists in the areas of basketball, academics and community service.

Wurtz, who averaged 25.0 points per game for the 14-9 Redhawks this season, also carries a 4.0 GPA in his business management, economics and philosophy major, while Simpson, who leads Chicago's balanced scoring attack into the Sweet 16 with 12.6 points per game, has a 3.81 GPA in visual arts and pre-med. Wurtz is the 2012 Capital One Academic All-American of the Year.

In the community service spectrum, Simpson founded the University of Chicago's chapter of Global Brigades and organized a trip to Honduras, recruiting 23 students, two doctors and coordinating the procurement of $200,000 of medicine. She also tutors high school students in English in the Chicago public schools. Wurtz volunteered in Congressman Tom Petri's office, helping out at community gatherings, and participated in the Foster Grandparent Program of Advocap Fond du Lac in Wisconsin.
