Rose-Hulman stunned No. 14 Franklin 59-52 to jumble both ends of the HCAC playoff race and No. 20 Kean was upset on the same day that it debuted atop the first Atlantic region ranking released by the NCAA.
Rose-Hulman entered Wednesday's game with a 4-10 record in the HCAC after losing seven of its last eight games. But that wasn't evident when the Engineers jumped on Franklin for a 32-20 halftime lead. The Grizzlies pulled with three with four minutes left but Rose-Hulman scored the next seven points. Alisa Dickerson notched 17 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists.
With the win, Rose-Hulman is tied with Anderson for seventh in the HCAC, one spot out of the last playoff spot. Franklin drops into a two-way tie for first with Hanover which beat Anderson 73-48.
The NCAA released its first set of regional rankings, which provide a glimpse into which teams could get at-large bids into the NCAA tournament. No. 20 Kean was picked first in the Atlantic region but got upset by TCNJ 65-55. No. 6 William Paterson was picked second in the region and nearly suffered the same fate. The Pioneers edged Rutgers-Newark 75-71 in overtime.
Allegheny got a triple-double from Erica Restich and two double-doubles in defeating Hiram 70-56. Restich had 14 points, 10 assists, and a career-high 18 rebounds.
McDaniel, which had lost 10 of its last 12 games, knocked off No. 25 Johns Hopkins 76-74. Emma Wingerd scored the game winning layup for the Green Terror on a putback as time expired. Check the Buzzer Beaters section for video.
No. 21 UW-River Falls survived a scare from UW-Superior 64-62. The Falcons are not in the Central region rankings, unlike WIAC counterparts UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire. The Pointers beat UW-Oshkosh 66-56.
Amanda Rose reached the 1,000 point milestone and No. 7 Mount Union rolled past Marietta 74-56 for its 16th straight win. Ohio Northern won a double-overtime thriller at Heidelberg 88-82.
Ferrum went on the road and dumped Greensboro 72-63. Ferrum's win drops Greensboro a game behind the Panthers and Christopher Newport, which plays Greensboro this weekend. King's clinched the MAC Freedom regular season title by defeating Delaware Valley 79-69.
