Suzy Barcomb leaves the Loggers' sideline after 12 seasons and 261 wins.

Suzy Barcomb, the most successful women's basketball coach in Puget Sound history, has resigned from her position to become the next head coach at Division II Cal State-East Bay. Barcomb went 261-92 in 12 seasons with the Loggers including four trips to the NCAA tournament in the last five seasons.

"For the last 12 years I have had the pleasure of working at the University of Puget Sound. It has been an amazing experience and one I will cherish for the rest of my life," said Barcomb in a University release. "I thought it was time I took my advice and reached outside of my comfort zone of Puget Sound."

The Loggers had won at least 16 games 10 seasons in a row under Barcomb. She led the team to a school best mark of 24-5 last season and another appearance in the NCAA tournament where the Loggers were eliminated by rival George Fox. Barcomb was named the D3hoops West Region Coach of the Year in 2007 when the Loggers reached the Elite 8. 

Barcomb joins a Cal State-East Bay program that is in the process of moving to Division II. The 2010-2011 season will be the Pioneers' third in a three-year phase as an exploratory member of Division II. Barcomb oversaw the Loggers' transition from NAIA to Division III basketball during her tenure at Puget Sound.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose a coach of Suzy’s caliber.” noted athletic director Amy Hackett. “Suzy has been a highly successful coach in our program but we appreciate her aspiration to coach in an athletic scholarship environment. She provided outstanding leadership for our student-athletes both on the court and in the classroom and we wish her continued success in her new challenge.”

Puget Sound will commence a national search for a new coach immediately.
