Rainbolt

After two years as an assistant coach for Veronica Snow at McMurry, Rusty Rainbolt will transition within the American Southwest Conference and take over Concordia-Texas' women's basketball program as head coach.

CTX athletic director Dan Huntley named Rainbolt to his first head-coaching job in his young career.

"Rusty, has all of the personal, social and faith qualities I am looking for in our staff members.  He has made an impact at every institution he has been associated with, especially as a recruiter. 

"He knows the ASC, D-III and Texas, so his transition to Concordia should be seamless," said Huntley. "I know he will work hard to raise our level of play in order to compete in the ASC West Division and for a spot in the ASC Championships in the near future. We are excited to provide him the opportunity to be a head coach for the first time and begin his legacy here in Austin."

For the last two seasons, Rainbolt has helped put together two winning seasons at McMurry with the last in 2010 ending in a ASC championship-game loss to Louisiana College. In his first season at McMurry, the team claimed an ASC West Division title and posted a 21-6 record. In two seasons as an assistant, Rainbolt helped McMurry to a 39-16 record and recruited the last two ASC West Division Newcomers of the Year in Anna Berthel (2009) and LaPorsha Alexander (2010).

"We are excited for Rusty to have this career opportunity," said Snow. "I believe it is just another reason we coach to have those who you have taught, and then work for you become your colleague. Rusty will do a great job and the women at Concordia will prosper under his leadership."

Rainbolt takes over a program at Concordia-Texas that posted two consecutive losing seasons under Steven Cochran. Snow expects to name Rainbolt's successor within the next couple of weeks she said.
