  • Whitman holds off Claremont in OT

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps narrowly missed eliminating the top two teams in the country from the NCAA Tournament on consecutive nights as top-ranked Whitman held off the Stags in overtime, 89-84. The last game of the night is our feature Game of the Night.

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps made the No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup disappear into thin air, Bethany Lutheran knocked St. John's out of the tournament, Cabrini won in the closing seconds and Augustana rallied past the System in a wild opening round to the 2018 Division III NCAA Tournament.

    Amherst and Wooster are perennial powers that dropped off the national radar after slow starts. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps entered the season highly ranked, then lost seven of its first 10 games.     Freshman Miles President (HMC) seemed undeterred by the raucous crowd at the Rains Center on Saturday night, scoring a career-high 18 points in his first Sixth Street Rivalry game to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team (15-1, 8-0) to a 73-67 victory over Pomona-Pitzer (10-7, 6-2).

    A year ago, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team defeated Chapman in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Top-seeded Chapman returned the favor this season with a 71-61 win over fourth-seeded CMS in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament semifinals on Feb. 26 at the Hutton Sports Center.

    Back in NCAA Division III Basketball Championship play for the first time since 2012, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team is facing Texas Lutheran at East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas on Friday, March 6 in the first round of the NCAAs. The field of 62 tournament teams was announced on March 2 by the NCAA on the Selection Show.
