How it Happened

Johns Hopkins outscored the Diplomats 28-18 in the second half, to pull out a 58-47 victory over Franklin & Marshall, their third consecutive win. Nine different players scored for the Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

Emily Howie hit a triple with less than 10 seconds left in the first half, sending the Blue Jays into the locker room with a 30-29 lead and sparking an 11-0 run into the middle of the third quarter. Hopkins held F&M scoreless for the first 5:15 of the third quarter, getting three-pointers from Lyndsey Hoyd and Diarra Oden while adding in a jumper from Halie Egan to gain a 38-29 lead. Alisyn Narracci ended the scoring run with a pair of free throws at the 4:45 mark in the third, but the Diplomats never truly got back into the ball game.

JHU led by as many as 14 after Jess Sweeney converted a layup after a feed from Elise Moore with 4:31 remaining in the contest. The lead never dipped lower than 10 in the final six minutes of the contests, allowing Hopkins to comfortably pull away with the win.

The game kicked off in a high-scoring fashion, as both teams shot better than 46 percent from the field in the first quarter. F&M led 16-12 with less than two minutes to play in the opening period, but Moore scored her sixth points of the quarter with 1:23 remaining to cut it to two and Oden tied the game at 16-16 with 47 seconds remaining in the first.

It was more of the same back-and-forth in the second as neither team led by more than three points. Kristin Ralston scored off an assist from Egan at the 6:06 mark to give Hopkins their first lead since the 8:02 mark of the first. Sarosha Parsons retook the lead for the Diplomats late in the quarter before the Howie three-pointer put Hopkins back on top.
