Benedictine Women Reach Past Alverno

LISLE, IL - Overcoming a slow start, the Benedictine University women's basketball team settled down to ride past visiting Alverno and improve to 6-0 in the NACC.

Alverno scored the first basket of the game to lead for the only time in the contest
The visitors utilized a zone to slow down Benedictine in the opening 10 minutes
Allison Michalski scored five points during a 7-0 run that saw Benedictine open a 13-6 lead, but Alverno came back and Benedictine held a 17-14 edge after one quarter with Alverno shooting 66.7 percent
The second quarter opened with Benedictine scoring 10 consecutive points to open a 27-14 lead
Michalski scored six points in the run with Alex Fanning adding four
Four in a row from Fanning at the end of the quarter saw Benedictine stretch the margin to 18 points after holding Alverno to just one field goal in the quarter
Michalski continued a dominating performance with seven points as part of a 9-0 run in the third to enable Benedictine to lead 50-26

Michalski matched a career high with 31 points in just 20 minutes, finishing 14-of-22 from the field with eight rebounds and two assists
Fanning tacked on 21 with 11 boards in another double-double, her seventh of the season

Benedictine held a 52-34 edge on the glass with 25 offensive boards
Benedictine shot 39 percent for the game with 56 points in the paint and 27 on second chance opportunities
