Washington and Lee Pulls out 66-62 ODAC Women's Hoops Win at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - In a contest that came down to the wire, Andy Smithey's team-leading 18 points and five assists led Washington and Lee University to a 66-62 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Guilford College Saturday afternoon in Ragan-Brown Field House. 

The entertaining game featured 10 lead changes and 10 ties and was ultimately decided in the final 90 seconds of regulation. Both teams battled during all four quarters but neither was able to find a lead of more than six points until the waning moments. 

With the score tied at 59-59 in the final minute, Taylor Casey hit a long three to give Washington and Lee (7-6, 4-2 ODAC) the 62-59 advantage. The Generals converted four free throws to stretch the lead to 66-59.

Kristen Roberts hit a three for Guilford (7-3, 3-2 ODAC) with five seconds left, but it wasn't enough as Washington and Lee held on for the 66-62 victory. 

For the Generals, Casey finished with 16 points and Megan Horn added 10 points. Erin Hughes paced the team with eight rebounds. 

Julie Carini led the Quakers with a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Roberts chipped in 14 points, while Miracle Walters joined in the double-digit scoring with 12 points. 

On the glass, Washington and Lee held a slight 33-32 advantage. The Generals also finished the contest shooting 45.3% as a team compared to Guilford's 39.7 shooting percentage. 

Coach Stephanie Flamini's Quakers return to the court for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at the University of Lynchburg on January 7.
