Dominating Third Quarter Leads Women's Basketball Past Berry, 60-41

The Emory University women's basketball team returned from the holiday break Monday evening and picked up right where they left off, defeating in-state foe Berry College, 60-41, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA. With their third straight win, the Eagles improve to 8-2 while the Vikings slip to 6-6.

Senior Erin Lindhahl and junior Molly Weiss carried the Eagles offensively with 13 points apiece off the bench. The double-digit effort was Lindahl's seventh of the campaign while Weiss tied her career-high with the performance. Sophomore Tori Huggins joined the duo in double figures with 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her third double-double. Making her first career start, freshman Mariane Auza tallied seven points to go along with seven rebounds and game-highs in assists (4) and steals (3).

The Eagles were aggressive on the glass, outrebounding the Vikings 53-34 and limited Berry to 25.9% shooting from the floor (15-for-58). Emory finished 24-for-67 (35.8%) and knocked down seven from distance.

What was a 28-25 Emory lead at the halftime break, turned into a double-digit edge thanks to a 22-4 score during the third period. Berry was held without a point until 54 seconds remaining in the quarter as the team missed its first 10 shots to open the second half. During the cold stretch for the visitors, the Eagles capitalized with a 19-0 scoring run with six different Eagles accounting for scores.

Emory closes out the non-conference schedule Thursday afternoon as Bates College visits the Woodruff PE Center for a 3:00 PM afternoon tip.
