How It Happened…

  • First Quarter
    • After two convincing wins in their opening games of the tournament Thursday, Saint Vincent and Gettysburg were in for a closely contested battle from the outset Friday night. The Bearcats led for most of the opening frame with the Bullets' lone lead coming at 8-6 on a lay-up by Gehrin at 6:17. Saint Vincent rattled off the final five points of the quarter to take a 20-17 lead.
  • Second Quarter
    • Gettysburg battled to the lead early in the second quarter with four consecutive buckets by Tinner making it 27-25 at 5:39. The hosts rallied with seven-straight points, but the Bullets surged into the break with their own seven-point rally, capped by a drive and lefty lay-in by Gehrin for the senior's 1,000 career point.
  • Third Quarter
    • The Bearcats jumped in front early in the second half before a quick nine-point spurt by Gettysburg made it 46-39 with 5:28 left in the quarter. Saint Vincent refused to back down, trimming the deficit down to one at 53-52 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Gehrin kept the Bullets in front with a jumper and an old-fashioned three-point play to make it 58-55 with 7:34 to go.
    • The pendulum swung in favor of the home team over the next three-plus minutes with the Bearcats mounting a 13-2 run that included three lay-ups. Two free throws by Paige Montrose put Saint Vincent up 68-60 with 4:09 remaining in the game.
    • Gehrin led the Bullets on the comeback trail, converting a pair of three-point plays before dishing to Cesareo for a go-ahead three-pointer to make it 69-68 with 1:34 left. Saint Vincent tied the game on a free throw 12 seconds later and stole in front with two more tries from the charity stripe by Lafko with only 12 seconds remaining.
    • Coming out of a timeout, Richson used a screen by junior Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) to get some space to shoot and the sophomore tickled the twine for a 72-71 lead. The Bearcats had two chances to take the lead in the final seconds, but lay-ups by Bri Van Volkenburg and Lafko rimmed out.

By the Numbers

  • Gettysburg finished 29-of-58 (50 percent) from the field. It was the sixth time this season the Bullets eclipsed 50 percent shooting from the floor. Saint Vincent finished 26-of-65 (40 percent) from the field.
  • The Bullets held a 43-28 rebounding edge and out-scored the Bearcats 38-28 in the paint.
  • Gehrin became the 17th member of Gettysburg's 1,000-point club. She climbed into 16th on the program's career list, just seven points shy of Steph Drevna '02 for 15th.
  • Gehrin topped her career high by 11 points and became the fourth Bullet to score 37 points in a game. Former teammate Emma Dorshimer '19 was the last to hit the mark against Lebanon Valley last season. Gehrin finished six points shy of Sue Marshall's '85 single-game mark of 42.
  • The senior guard also posted the most field goals made in a single game since Marshall tallied 17 twice during the 1984-85 season. All but three of Gehrin's 16 field goals came in the paint and she converted four old-fashioned three-point plays.
  • Gehrin was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
