KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost to Penn St.-Abington in the first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the season on Saturday by the score of 56-52.

Keuka College (4-3, 0-1 NEAC) was led by Riley Record (Palymra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) with 14 points. Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) added 12 for the Wolves.

The Wolves came out as Laranjo made her first two shots for the early lead, but the Nittany Lions tied it back up. In a close first quarter, Sydney Bloom (Penn Yan, N.Y. / Penn Yan Academy) hit a jumper in the final minute to give the Wolves a 15-10 lead after one.

In the second, Keuka College flexed their defensive muscle early, holding Abington off the board until 6:05 of the quarter. Unfortunately for the Wolves, their offense went in a rut too as Keuka was held without points for from the eight-minute mark to the three-minute mark. Despite the drought, the Wolves never surrendered the lead as Keuka College led 22-19 at the half.

The Nittany Lions scored the first four points of the third to take the lead over Keuka. The Wolves responded and Abington did right back as the lead would change hands. In total, the Nittany Lions scored 17 in the frame after scoring just 19 in the first two quarters. The Wolves went 4-14 from the floor including 0-5 from three in the third as Keuka trailed 36-34 going into the final quarter.

Penn St.-Abington scored the first 12 points of the fourth quarter, growing their lead to 14 points. Keuka College ended the run on a Bloom jumper. The game looked out of hand until Riley Record got hot for Keuka. The junior hit four straight threes on four straight possessions as the Abington lead went from 50-38 to 53-50 in a minute twenty. Sam Laranjo got a layup for the Wolves with 29 seconds left to cut the lead to one, 53-52. As the other end of the floor, Abington made both free throws to take a three-point lead. Keuka followed that with an offensive foul to give the ball back to the Nittany Lions and fouled with five seconds to play. Abington would miss both free throws, but get the offensive rebound. The Nittany Lions were fouled again and went 1-2 from the line to seal the 56-52 victory.
