Benedictine Women Continue Early Surge

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team stormed out to a 10-0 lead but needed to withstand a second half rally by visiting Lakeland University to win a third straight.

THE DETAILS
Claire Gibler scored the first eight points of the game including back-to-back threes to open the contest as Benedictine surged to an early 10-0 lead
Benedictine would no trail in the game, but did not score again in the opening quarter after a layup from Allison Michalski with 6:27 left
While Benedictine was struggling to score, Lakeland could not connect on a shot, opening the game 1-for-27
Britney Pitzer hit a three-pointer at the 6:24 mark of the second quarter as Benedictine led 19-2
Lakeland started to hit shots, pulling within 27-15 at halftime
A big third quarter enabled the visitors to battle within 37-36 in the final minute of the quarter, but a big three from Brianna Lake made the score 42-36 heading to the final 10 minutes
Benedictine scored the first five points of the fourth including another three from Lake to again lead by double figures at 47-36
Lakeland clawed within seven points midway through the fourth but Benedictine again stretched the margin to double figures

Benedictine shot 40.7 percent from the floor for the game while holding Lakeland to just 26.9 percent
Benedictine held a 47-42 edge on the glass
Michalski led all scorers with 20 points, adding 13 rebounds
Gibler contributed 15 while Alex Fanning grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked five shots
