Mirecki's Career Night Sparks WPI to Road Triumph at Nichols

Dudley, MA --- Victoria Mirecki (Rock Tavern, NY) erupted for a career-high 17 points and the WPI defense limited host Nichols to 18.1% shooting from the floor as the Engineers bested the Bison 63-36 in a non-conference women's basketball contest played Tuesday evening.

With the result, WPI ups its record to 5-2 overall while the Bison slip to 1-5 on the season.

After Nichols connected on two of their first three shots to go up 5-2, the Engineers rattled off the next 17 points to surge ahead 19-5 and would never see its advantage shrink below double digits.  The WPI defense created five turnovers during the run and forced the Bison to miss on 11 straight attempts from the field.  Six different players dented the scoring column for the Crimson and Gray during the spurt including four points each from Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, CA) and Lisa Cristiano (Valhalla, NY)

The second and third quarters were Mirecki's to shine.  The sophomore more than tripled her season scoring total in the middle 20 minutes, shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers and a conventional 3-point play.

Also for WPI, Maddie Blake (Bedford, NH) brought down a game-high eight rebounds, while piling on four assists and five points. Bailey Savage (Charlton, MA) was second on the team dropping in nine points for the Engineers while Vinson finished with eight points and seven boards and Cristiano ended with seven points.

Nichols was led by junior Isabella Nerney (Guilford, CT), she poured in a team-high eight points and brought down four rebounds in the contest. Freshman Gina Parmenter (Oxford, ) put up six points while Erin Cann (Biller) scored her first collegiate points (5) in 11 minutes of action.

WPI is off until Saturday, December 7th when it host No. 2 Tufts at 2pm.  Nichols is back on the court Wednesday, December 4th, entertaining Wentworth at 5:30pm.
