Emory Blisters the Nets and Defeats Rochester

ATLANTA – Ashley Oldshue scored 24 points and Erin  Lindahl added 17 more as Emory University defeated the University of Rochester, 78-54, in a women's basketball game at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
It was the regular season finale for both teams. Emory is 19-6 overall, 10-4 in the University Athletic Association. The Eagles finished in a tie for second place with the University of Chicago (19-6, 10-4) behind league champion Washington University (19-6, 13-1). Emory and Chicago will wait and see if they are selected as at-large entries (Pool C) to the NCAA Division III playoffs on Monday.
 
Rochester finished at 10-15 overall, 4-10 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets finished in sixth place in the league standings, a game ahead of Brandeis University and Carnegie Mellon.
  
First-year Julianna Okoniewski led Rochester with 17 points, hitting 7 of 14 from the floor, 3-5 at the line. She grabbed four rebounds, blocked two shots, and made on steal in 23 minutes. Senior Lena Ethington scored eight points, had five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Moriah Kunes had seven points. Ally Forness scored four points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Oldshue hit 12 of 15 from the floor, collected nine rebounds, and blocked three shots. Lindahl made 7 of 9 from the field, had six rebounds, and three steals. Allison Chernow was Emory's third double-figure scorer with 14 points.
 
The Eagles shot 59% from the floor for the game and made five of 10 outside the arc. EU held a 38-25 edge on the backboards.
 
Emory jumped ahead, 19-7, after one period. Rochester narrowed the deficit to eight points four times in the second quarter and got it down to seven after a three-pointer from Tessa Ludwick (29-22 with 1:38 left). It was 35-26 EU at halftime.
 
Ethington's layup to start the third made it a seven-point game again, but Emory ran off 10 straight points – Chernow hitting back to back threes – to pull away.
