UNE drops WIT, 81-59, for 5th straight win

BOSTON -- Sadie Nelson chalked up a game-high 23 points to help the University of New England women's basketball squad roll over Wentworth Institute of Technology by an 81-59 margin in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Wednesday evening (Feb. 13) at Tansey Gymnasium.

The Nor'easters end the regular-season on a five-game winning streak, improving to 14-11 overall and 12-4 in league play. UNE will be the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament that starts next Tuesday; the field will become set once the rest of the CCC finishes up on Saturday.

Nelson made 8-of-12 field-goal tries in the contest, and the reigning CCC Player of the Week added eight rebounds to her line. Jocelyn Chaput notched her fourth double-double of the season, posting 18 points, 10 boards, and six assists. Abby Cavallaro tossed in eight of her 11 points in the 1st quarter, and her four assists were matched by Ashley Coneys, who registered eight points and seven caroms.

The Nor'easters shot 48 percent (31-for-65) in the match, while converting 15 WIT turnovers into 21 points and scoring another 21 from 15 offensive rebounds. The visitors, who built a 13-point lead (27-14) through 10 minutes and never looked back, had a 44-34 cushion on the glass.

For the Leopards (3-21, 1-14 CCC), Erin Morton tallied 18 of her 22 points before halftime and secured seven rebounds. Emily Magasic recorded 11 points in support.
