Ramlochan, Tigers Edge Beavers in Thriller

PASADENAAlyssa Ramlochan went off in the second half, Taylor Yoshida hit the game-winner and the Occidental women's basketball team was able to overcome a double-digit deficit to beat Caltech 47-45 on Saturday.

With the score tied at 45 and the game clock winding down, Yoshida drove to the middle of the paint, stopped and hit a 13-foot jumper with just .08 seconds left on the clock, sending Oxy's bench into a frenzy and the Tigers into the lead.

Caltech advanced the ball with a timeout and got a reasonable look at a three-pointer, but missed wide right as time expired.

Ramlochan, a sophomore from Los Angeles, scored a game-high 22 points on 10 for 15 shooting, and grabbed seven rebounds. She scored 16 of her points in the second half to help the Tigers erase a 23-12 Beaver lead at halftime.

The Tigers did not shoot the ball well as a group in the first half, going just 5 for 29 from the field and 1 for 12 from beyond the 3-point line.

Mallory North heated up for Oxy in the second half, hitting all three of her three-pointers in the half to put the Tigers in front by as many as eight points. Caltech didn't quit and was able to scrap back into the game after surrendering the lead.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play.

Caltech falls to 5-7 and 0-4.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Monday, playing at Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 p.m. It's a busy stretch for the Tigers as they stay on the road to face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday, before returning home to play Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
