Offensive outburst guides SVC to seventh straight victory

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Dec. 22) – The Saint Vincent women's basketball team earned its seventh straight victory in a 90-65 wire-to-wire win over SUNY Polytechnic Institute at the Juniata College Holiday Classic.
 
The win improves Saint Vincent to 9-2 overall this season. The seven-game winning streak represents the longest winning streak since SVC picked up nine straight during the 2012-13 season. The Bearcats last loss came 35 days ago on Nov. 17 to #10 Messiah College.
 
Madison Kollar poured in a game-high 26 points to lead the Bearcats to the win. Kayla Slovenec produced a solid all-around game, tallying 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Saint Vincent. Maria Morgan also finished in double figures, contributing 11 points.
 
Carlee Kilgus added eight points and four assists, while Jenna Lafko turned in a six-assist day. Bri Van Volkenburg paced the defensive effort with six steals.
 
The Bearcats held the lead throughout, building a 15-10 advantage after the first before extending the lead to 39-22 at halftime. Saint Vincent then led by a 68-49 margin after three before wrapping up the 25-point victory.
 
Saint Vincent shot 51.5 percent from the field, converting 35 of 68 attempts, which represents its best shooting performance of the season. The Bearcats outrebounded the Wildcats by a 43-33 margin. SVC also forced SUNYIT to commit 23 turnovers.
 
Kollar and Morgan were named to the Juniata Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team. Kollar finished the two-day event by averaging 21.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. Morgan averaged 12.0 points per game in a pair of wins for SVC.
 
The Bearcats return to action in 2019 when they host Westminster College for a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday, Jan. 3. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Carey Center.
