Hartford, Conn. – Senior guard Becky Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 80-29 win over the visiting Gordon College Fighting Scots in women's basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 4-0 while Gordon drops to 1-5 with its third consecutive setback.
Trinity made its first nine shots from the field and led, 23-4, with 2:46 remaining in the first quarter, as seniors Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.), Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.), and Reifler scored six points apiece. The Bantams led, 25-7, after one quarter and, 47-15, at halftime on their way to their most-lopsided victory since 2015. Reifler led all scorers with 11 at the break, while Erickson added eight points. Trinity shot 60.7 percent from the floor, made eight of 12 shots from long range, and forced 14 turnovers in the first two quarters.
Trinity held Gordon in single digits in all four quarters and the visitors shot just 29.5 percent from the field (13-44) in the game. The Bantam defense forced 12 more turnovers in the second half. Reifler scored 12 of her 14 points on four treys in nine tries and added two steals, while Cunningham finished with 13 points and five rebounds, and Erickson had 12 points, six boards, and four steals. Junior Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) lit up the stat sheet with five points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and three blocked shots, while senior Erica Junquet (Monroe, N.J.) and sophomore Allie Morin (Westwood, Mass.) notched eight points and four assists each for the Bantams.
Gordon junior guard Alisha Henderson (Oregon City, Oregon) scored a team-high nine points off the bench, and junior guard Meghan Foley (Malden, Mass.) grabbed five boards. The Bantams visit Stevens in their next game on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Gordon plays at Wentworth on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
