Babson Powers Past Rochester 58-48 In UR Chuck Resler Tournament

Visiting Babson College used a 10-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to grab a seven point lead and held on for a 58-48 victory over the University of Rochester women's basketball team in the third and final game of the 2018 Chuck Resler Invitational.
 
Rochester (0-3) was led by senior Lena Ethington who scored 12 points with five rebounds and three assists.  She was selected to the six person All-Tournament Team.  Both Brenna James and Ally Forness scored seven points while Kenna Lauer and Lauren Foley each sank a pair of 3-pointers for six points each.
 
Babson (2-1) had three players in double-figures.  Emily Bonifacic and Katherine Tamulionis each had 13 points while Payton Ouimette had 12 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists.  Tamulionis and Ouimette were Babson's All-Tournament representatives.
 
Neither team could muster much offense in the first quarter, with a Forness 3-pointer closing the period with Rochester trailing 11-7.
 
The Yellowjackets took a second quarter lead, going up 19-16 after back-to-back jumpers from Jamie Boeheim and Ethington capped a 12-5 UR run.
 
Babson answered right back, ending the first half on a 13-5 spurt of its own to head into intermission up 29-24.  In the stretch Ouimette and Bonfacic each had four points and Elizabeth Lane sank a 3-pointer with under 30 seconds on the clock.
 
Rochester was able to fight back and regain the lead in the third quarter, forcing the Beavers to 1-9 shooting over a five minute stretch, leading to a 10-2 Yellowjackets run.  A Julianna Okoniewski layup started the push and back-to-back buckets from Ethington put Rochester up 38-35 with 2:51 remaining in the third.
 
With UR up by three, the Babson defense clamped down for the next three minutes, holding the Yellowjackets off the board while Babson scored 10 points, edging ahead by seven, 45-38.
 
A Foley triple and layup by Brenna James cut the lead to two, with 7:25 remaining, but the Beavers relied on Ouimette inside down the stretch as she scored six points in an 8-0 burst to put the game away.
 
Babson held a big scoring advantage in the paint, leading UR 38-16 and also added 15 second chance points thanks to 16 offensive rebounds, 10 of which were by Ouimette.  For the game, Rochester shot 32% and made six three's while Babson shot 35% overall and had two 3-pointers.
 
Rochester returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Yellowjackets host William Smith College in the Palestra at 6 pm.
